What is SALt?

If you haven’t heard of SALt, and I am not talking about the stuff you put on your fries, then I suggest you visit their website HERE and read for yourselves. Aisa Mijeno and Raphael Mijeno are the co-founders of SALt. They are behind the revolutionary salt water powered LED lamp.

How it works:

If you live along the coast, just one cup of seawater will power this lamp for up to 8 hours. If you are not by the coast, then one cup of regular water and 2 tablespoons of salt will do the trick. There is nothing used in the manufacturing of the lamp that may cause fires. The process the lamp uses changes the electrolytes into a non-toxic saline solution, making it completely safe.

You can even charge your phone with it!

That’s right, your phone. If you find yourself in an emergency situation with no battery have no fear, your SALt lamp will come to the rescue. There is a USB port on the side of the lamp that allow for a USB phone cable to be connected. As long as you have salt water on or near you, you can charge your smart phone.

When it comes to paintless dent repair, one of the most important tools in a mechanic’s arsenal are his PDR lights. These lights are used by mechanics to repair dents in vehicles. PDR lights help differentiate between the normal angle and the disfigured angle of the dent. The light will warp and distort itself around the dent allowing the mechanic to see how big the dent is, how deep it is, and if there are any other smaller dents surrounding the area.

The colour and patterns used on the face of the light are all a matter of personal preference. Different combinations work better than others for certain people. The combinations are customizable so do not worry if you have yet to find the perfect one.

LEDs – Innovation Begins with Imagination

LED lighting has come a long way and continues to progress. There are so many creative ways to use LEDs and the possibilities are exciting. Today we bring to you some of the current trends in LEDs.

Current Trends

Although it may not be legal in some countries, LEDs are used by many to liven up their vehicles. LED strips can be used to line the interior doors, floors, and roof of most vehicles. There are also ways to modify the exterior. Some products already come equipped with LEDs and have been for many years. LED-based headlights are one feature that has been around for a while.

The LED headlight is becoming a popular DIY project found in most high-end cars. LED lights in tail-lights, under glow, signal lights, license plate frames, side mirror kits, hood scoop kits, grille kits, cup holder kits, wheel well kits, and tailgate bars are also wide spread. You can essentially make you car light up like it’s from the movie Tron.

A small, but popular, DIY modification is the replacement of valve caps on the tires. Valve caps can be replaced with a rather affordable LED cap with a built in motion sensor. The LED only activates when the tire is in motion. It generates a ring of light around the rim. This is probably one of the coolest and cheapest DIY vehicle modifications. Before you try this out, make sure to review the legal implications.

Emazing Lights

If you haven’t heard of Emazing lights yet, look them up. Using their own custom LED chip they have created a revolutionary product that gives people the ability to give “light shows”. The product is a pair of gloves with LED chips in the fingertips and palms. The LED chips glow and flash according to how the user has them programmed. The user then “dances” or “gives a light show” to a song that is playing. The result is a really cool and colorful “dance”. These have been seen everywhere within pop culture, especially at music festivals, local bars, and dance clubs. Aside from gloves, LEDs are being integrated into everyday clothing!

There are LED belt buckles, hoodies, shirts, hats, glasses, shoes, and even socks and… Underwear. Halloween is also a fantastic time to light up the night! It is becoming increasingly popular to accentuate your costume with a few lights here and there. Who knows, maybe in the future the human race will be sporting brightly-lit clothing all of the time!

Architecture

Another great example of the diverse applications of LED lighting is their usage in architecture. This makes them more attractive to the human eye. A lot of companies are now lining the sides of skyscrapers and buildings with LED strip lighting. There is even a tower being built called the Infinity Tower in South Korea. This tower will use state-of-the-art LED lighting and cameras to create the effect of disappearing. The tower, which has been under design since 2004, got the green light for construction in 2013.

Aside from making buildings look cool, LED lighting is also used to help with the construction of structures. Replacing conventional light sources like floodlights and headlamps with LED bulbs ensures a safer alternative. It is safer because they last longer and are more durable. Thus there is less chance of an accident occurring like a headlamp going out or getting broken. LEDs mimic the sun and are more natural for us to use in order to see compared to other sources of light. These are only SOME of the ways LED lighting can used. There are many many more..

LED Grow Lights: Pros and Cons

In this post we will be going over LED grow lights. We are not saying that they are the best or worst option. However, they are still an option with some really great pros. Yet like with anything else there are also cons. Let us go over both aspects of this subject below.

Pros:

Plants need light to grow, we all know this. The light that the sun emits has colors from all over the spectrum, this is also well known. But what is not well known is that plants only need red and blue light to grow efficiently; the rest of the spectrum is not necessary. With LED grow lights you gain the ability to tune the color spectrum to plants in different stages of growth.

LED‘s are very efficient compared to conventional lighting sources. With LED grow lights the number of watts of electricity used is cut by 40-50%. If you are going to be growing plants for a matter of years, this fact alone can save you a lot of money. LED grow lights output way less heat then other systems. What this means is that you may not need any cooling systems. If you do then they can be scaled way down and you can hang your LED grow lights a lot closer to your plants.

A run of the mill LED grow light will last for at least 50,000 hours. That is a little over 5 years. Higher end LED units can last for up to 20 years. This drastically reduces the number of bulbs that need to be bought and replaced. Besides lasting longer, LED units have a very compact design. They are thinner and lighter compared to conventional units. Also, depending on how much space you have to work with, you could possibly set up a vertical garden with stacks of at least 2 or more!

Cons:

Now on to the drawbacks. And we are being brutally honest. LED grow lights can be significantly more expensive to buy compared to other sources. Now for the defense: with other sources you could be replacing bulbs or the ENTIRE unit multiple times a year. Also, other sources soak up twice the amount of energy than LED grow lights do. Sometimes plants that are under LED grow lights can experience discoloration, sometimes turning grey-ish or purple. But I mean, who doesn’t mind a purple carrot now and then? LED grow lights do not produce a lot of heat which is in itself a plus. But this is not ideal for plants who like a more heated environment. So, it really all depends on the types of plants you are trying to grow.

All in all, the LED-based growing light system is best for the grower who is happy to spend more at the beginning in order to save in the long run. Allowing them more energy efficient and compact grow lights that emit light specifically for plants!

Uses for LEDs as Retail Signage

Renting an LED sign is a great way to test the waters before purchasing one. We have a large selection of indoor and out door models. We also offer signs in a variety of colours.

Pricing:

The size and the amount of time that you will be renting the sign for determines pricing. The minimum amount of time you can rent a sign for is seven days. Some signs are outfitted with a wireless transmitter so that they can be programmed from your laptop or updated via USB.

Colours:

There are also a variety of colors to choose from ranging from one color, two colors, 3 colors, and full color with all colors from the spectrum. This means that we can produce anything from basic RGB to more complex colours like purple, yellow, orange, etc. We offer options for indoor signs and outdoor signs. Why 3D Channel Letters are Stylish and Unique!

Why 3D?

Why should you consider going with 3D Channel Letters? 3D Channel Letter signs are growing very popular among business owners these days. They are pleasing to the eye and hard to miss day or night. Channel Letters allow for a lot of creative freedom in terms of design and are extremely efficient. They are also way better for the environment.

Some Basic Information

A channel letter is made from aluminum. Aluminum does not rust. We provide various sizes so as to give you more selection. Each letter-face mainly composed of acrylic, unless you chose an open-face style. Our 3D Channel Letters use LEDs for illumination. Older channel letter signs use neon tubing which contains mercury and is not safe for the environment. LEDs are highly efficient compared to neon and they also contain ZERO harmful substances. LEDs allow for our signs to be visible during the day and IMPOSSIBLE to miss at night. The face of the channel letter can be any color, even black. Along with letters, we can also construct custom shapes to incorporate already existing business logos and designs. This allows for each sign to be 100% unique to a business.

There a number of options for mounting a channel letter sign. First, the sign can be mounted on a metal panel giving it more room away from the exterior wall. Second, each letter can be individually mounted directly to the wall.

There are cases where business owners utilize LED strip lighting to accent and modify the existing Channel Letter sign. This gives the sign an even more unique look, essentially completing the design.

HALO lit 3D Channel Letters

A halo lit channel letter has the light directed behind it. The back light illuminates the back and creates a very cool “Halo” effect around each individual letter. The face of the letter is sealed off with aluminum and painted a dark color (most often black). Dark letters create the contrast needed for the full “halo” effect.

Open Faced 3D Channel Letters

An open faced channel letter has no acrylic face attached to the front of the letter. Thus the LEDs are exposed and illumination is increased. This requires LEDs specifically designed to withstand the elements. These LEDs are typically sealed off with a durable weather-proof silicon adhesive.

Front/Back Lit 3D Channel Letters

A front and back lit channel letter has both an illuminated acrylic face and a “halo” effect. This allows the sign to give off the “halo” illumination as well as an illuminated face. The back of the letter is exposed, creating the “halo” effect, and the face is acrylic.
